school for kids who can't fight good and want to learn how to do other stuff good too
Hey guys! With Ramir's recent post in mind, I figured I'd throw something together for characters looking to be taught or teach fighty stuff. So here's an OOC planning thing for it! You don't have to have tagged the post to participate, you can assume your character found out there's lessons going on through word of mouth, or however else you like. And on a similar note, Ramir would be happy to play matchmaker and pair teachers with students if you're not sure how the connection might kick off, or you can also handwave that having taken place elsewise. Whatever works!
If you play a teacher, go ahead and use this form and post it in the teacher thread:
And students, here's your form for the student thread:
Once that's all filled out, go student/teacher shopping! And yes, you can totally sign up under both headers. Pick up new skills, grab CR you've been coveting for a while! I'm figuring teachers could have multiple students and students could have multiple teachers, just to spread the CR all around. You're also welcome to either plan out threads here, or just talk out and handwave how the lessons would go.

Skills: The wide, wide world of magic bullshit, including just about any magical topic you can think of from "how does this spell do a thing" to mastery, and magic combined with physical fighting.
Notes: Rin is a terrible tsundere who will challenge you and work you hard, but that's because she cares about you and doesn't want you to die... Really. That said, she might ask payment (just do favors for her, bro) and her skill set is more magic-based than purely fighting, but I thought I'd throw her in here for anyone with a character interested in magical things! She gets along well with pretty much everyone as long as they show a willingness to improve. (Note: "Well" may actually include arguing with you and subtly hating your guts, i'm sorry)
Pick her up as a teacher today and join fellow students like Sieglinde and Sigma!

Skills:
-Hand-to-hand combat
-Asandus style swordplay with dagger and longblade
-Offensive and defensive magic
-Over-eloquent trash talk
-Can also provide the broad side of a barn for those who can't punch to save their lives, if dragon-flavour wanted.
Notes:
Laedo practices warm-ups and basic movements--flexibility, speed, strength, and endurance--every morning at sunrise to get the rust out of his human form. If anyone wants to karate kid with him he won't mind too much. He can be paid in compliments and good food, and gets along best with those who are willing to ignore his blatantly patronizing blather. He treats humans a little bit like he's offering them charity, to be warned. I'd love if anyone with magic powers or any non-standard humans (non-humans, big characters, both) wanted to exchange tips and tricks, and he'd be happy to work with sparring partners.

Skills: Hand-to-hand combat and use of melee weapons, primarily. Maybe puns. Got some bonus appendages? He can work with that too...for reasons.
Notes: Haise has personal experience training his squad, who came in at varying skill levels ranging from Hopeless to Tryhard, and he's very good at taking individual capabilities into consideration. Likewise he looks at motivation and experience into account. Expect him to cook for anybody he's training with, he really misses doing domestic stuff like this for his squad back home.
As a bonus there's no need to be all that worried about hitting him too hard, he's got a regen factor.

Skills: Combat magic! Specifically your flashy video game "here's a lightning storm enjoy your screaming death" style. Also tracking and survivalist skills if anyone is interested in that direction. He also knows some archery and is proficient with a staff, but since he's not really able to use those skills right now he can only give some pointers and can't demonstrate anything.
Notes: While unfortunately Thedas has a 'either you're born with magic or you're not' policy on it, so Meallan can't teach those without magic the skill, he can help those who do know it already with refining spells and whatnot. He wouldn't need convincing beyond someone expressing an interest in learning and wouldn't expect any payment for it either. He'd likely be a pretty patient teacher, though he might tease and joke around with students a little if they seem like they can take that.

Skills: Archery. Hand to Hand. Survivalist skills. Some level of plant identification and herbology, though if you really wanna know about that he'd direct you to Sieglinde. Tracking.
Notes: He's pretty open about what he can do and will offer to teach people that want to learn. If you learn something from him you're going to have to be okay with hanging out with his wolf brother. He might not be the warmest teacher, that's just because he has no heart. He's very patient, too much for some characters I'd imagine. He'd also expect you to work pretty hard if you wanted to learn. He's not going to half-ass, if you're gonna learn you are gonna learn.
also if he teaches you archery he will probs make a bow for you.

Skills: Navigating death traps and surviving (aka ruins and their traps/monsters lurking there), sword fighting. I guess you can also count using the Divine Weapons with his seraphim armatizing too. Which also includes the bow, gauntlets, giant frakking sword, and the pendulums.
Notes: Sorey probably wouldn't demand payment. He'd possibly also include some general survival skills too if others were interested - like hunting, reading maps, skinning and using the hide of game for things. Possibly simple sewing? idk he's pretty patient and friendly so he'd probably be willing to help anyone that might ask. He is self-taught though, so he hasn't. Actually ever received any proper training himself.

Skills: Loki knows a wide-variety of tricksy magics, including illusion, runes, teleportation, probably stealing, etc. If it's reality warpy, he's got his hands in it. He's good at making types of sorcery understandable for those that have differences between worlds/mediums.
Notes: Any illusion-based work will start with Loki telling his bright-eyed new student to tell him a convincing lie. Since sorcery, illusion especially, stems for telling lies, those who are better at lying will be better at illusion. Loki will ask for a favor, and it's kinda side-eye to be indebted to Loki, but you know.

Skills: G.......uns??? Basic hand-to-hand too, but mostly firearm use. No need to BYOG, she has extras.
Notes: Willingness to teach depends on the student - she's far more inclined to teach a mature adult than a bubbly 12 year old. That said, given the messes of both Chantes and Nalawi, she definitely thinks everyone in ALASTAIR ought to be able to defend themselves in some way or another. She did a round of lessons in Nalawi so feel free to have your character hear about it through the grapevine. Otherwise her job is literally to kill people so if that's something your character struggles with, we can focus on that aspect of it too.

Notes: Sieglinde is a bit picky about what she calls her "disciples", but if someone shows a willingness to learn and a decent aptitude she's willing to at least try teaching them. She doesn't actually do classes per se, but allows people to watch her at work and expects them to be smart enough to learn via observation. Coming out of working with her you could expect your character to be able to do basic first-aid such as setting bones, stitches, cleaning/debriding wounds, and treating shock... potion-making, treatment beyond first response, etc. available if you do well at first-aid!

Skills: MURDER DEATH KILLING, which is to say, swordsmanship and disgusting magic. He's also proficient with any number of melee weapons--not just two-handed swords, but also 1handed style (dual wielding); axes; maces; polearms, etc.
Notes: i just presume that ramir is gonna strong-arm koltira into this and tbh he is a hard-ass teacher; he will DRIVE U LIKE A CAR OFF A CLIFF. You will have to periodically remind him that you are alive and therefore require things such as 'rest' and 'water' and 'sustenance, generally'. That said, if you want a teacher who will show you how to slice up a guy at close range and with surprising quickness, he's your man.
Personality-wise, he is taciturn and cold. Not the best fit for someone who needs a constant stream of positive reinforcement. But if you do well, he'll acknowledge it--eventually.
He doesn't need payment; ultimately, he'd just offer to do this because Ramir called him out and a man of honor does not back down from such things! Also because she's his friend, he guesses. He GUESSES.
He may also be able to instruct you on SOME of his nasty magic--some of it requires a runeblade to perform, but not all of it (his ice powers are independent of his sword, for the most part, and he can boil blood etc on his own).

Skills: GUNS; grenades; punching real hard; rolling around a lot. He's an expert marksman and extremely resourceful; he can show you not only how to shoot, but how to observe a target, how to observe the environment, and how best to work those things to your advantage. He's lived rough and tumble since he was a teenager, so he can hold himself up in a scrap even sans gun.
Notes: McCree is a friendly guy, but he does not have infinite patience. If you screw around or don't take the thing seriously, he'll send you packing. But if someone is really trying their best, he'll be patient and supportive. He gets along with just about anybody--or tries to, anyway.
Payment wise, he might say you owe him one ... but he won't really expect to cash it in. Probably.

Skills: swordsmanship, leadership, strategy, survivalist skills, justicing, how to sniff out the bad guys.
Notes: Saber is incredibly skilled in the art of close combat. While she struggles with the aspect of teaching due to a lack of patience she would be more than willing to assist those already in possession of basic fighting skills with strengthening of technique and execution. Basically her teaching method would focus mainly on sparring/practicing one on one with the aim of improving the student's overall form and handling of their weapon. Swords are her specialty but she has experience with a number of weapons (think medieval/melee type weaponry ie: daggers, lances, axes, bow and arrow etc). She's also good with hand to hand, if your character prefers not to wield any particular weapon.
It's important to note that Saber's fighting style is based on the chivalric code- which basically means she doesn't fight dirty. If your character isn't willing to fight honorably and stay within those guidelines then they will need to find themselves another mentor. Which isn't to say I would oocly mind someone with clashing views to pair her up with because I think that sort of thing could turn out really interesting! c:
Something else she excels at, that is far too easily overlooked, is strategy. She lead an entire army of soldiers for over a decade and participated in countless wars. Battle strategy was an essential art for a person in her position in order to survive. She's quite adept at planning appropriate methods of attack in addition to reading enemies movements and discerning what their next move will be. While a good portion of this unique skillset is attributed to innate ability, she would still be able to help coach those with less experience on the battlefield on how to make smart decisions in the face of life or death situations. BASICALLY SHE IS VERY WISE when it comes to the art of warfare so feel free to come to her with any questions or concerns like how to not die.
Things like death and murder don't really phase her much because she's been exposed to it all her life. It was a different time......... In essence she's a kawaii killing machine so pls do not anger the tiny.
Yeah idk what else to say so come at me brosis let's do the thing.

Skills: Kojuro is primarily a swordsman - arguably one of the best, if not the best, in his canon. He's also fairly skilled at grappling (jujutsu style, mostly), and decent with staff, spear, and Japanese bow. In addition, he can also teach group tactics - he's an excellent strategist.
Notes: Kojuro actually has experience teaching, which is a plus, though he's from a time and place where basically no coddling is expected in the teaching process. He's not going to be harsh just to prove he can be, but if he thinks an asskicking is what you need, that is what you will get. Expect some injuries. His personality is also fairly reserved so if you come in expecting a lot of praise/encouragement you may find yourself disappointed.

Skills: Spears are his specialty, and also MUCH MUCH COOLER THAN SWORDS, but he knows his way around a sword too, as well as a bow. Except he hasn't got either of the latter two weapons here. Also skilled in hand-to-hand but he considers that a sport rather than a mode of combat. (Why would you waste your time trying to punch the enemy when you can just skewer them?)
Notes: He won't be the most patient of teachers, especially since all he had to do was pick up a spear and he was awesome at it. (Sure is nice to be blessed from birth.) Looking to take on only a few students (2, maybe 3). Also he can lay down some sick beats on the lyre, if anybody is interested in

Notes: Natasha is stringent but patient. She has high expectations but she's also quick to make use of someone's natural talents rather than encouraging them to contort themselves to fit any particular mold that works for her. She's participated in training for the newer members of the Avengers with Steve, so she's fairly focused on team-building and promoting individuals' ability to play well off each other, not just be individualistic. She takes a deeply personal touch and encourages people to attack it from a personal perspective of what they want out of it and what they want to use it for because she does not just want to red room anyone.

Notes: Serene began rebuilding herself up several years ago after a bout of extended illness and bed rest destroyed the muscle mass she once had, so she's sympathetic to those who need to go from zero to hero. However she's got little sympathy for whining beyond a little bit of venting and will expect your character to learn to endure the discomfort and stress of training.
Serene believes in fighting dirty: nobility means nothing if you're dead, so if you have to kick balls, spit in eyeballs and stamp faces when they're already down in order to win, you do it.

Preexisting skills: super strong... so strong... too strong. Also even before the strength thing happened she could hold her own in a brawl pretty well, and has fought barehanded and with knifes. Not that there was any style involved in it, it was just... whatever worked...
Skills sought: She's still trying to figure out what kind of weapon she can utilize her strength with, but that will also be useable if she loses her strength again. Possibly archery. Swords look appealing. Anything but a hammer, people have got to stop suggesting hammers. She's also looking to improve general coordination/strength training/unarmed combat... make her more badass pls it's all she asks. She'll be looking for multiple teachers, probably with Koltira, Achilles, and Graham among them.
Notes: Ramir can basically get along with anyone, even Achilles (after a while), and will be pretty motivated to be a good student. She will absolutely do her best to drive any teachers insane while she learns from them. Also worth nothing, I got an indestructible weapon for her via ALASTAIR rewards, so breaking it with her strength won't be a problem once she settles on something. (B

Skills sought: Emma has used a sword briefly and could use more practice. She's also more street-smart when it comes to her asskicking, so different types of combat training would be cool. I'm probably gonna have her pester
Notes: Emma would show up for every lesson, but she lacks patience, so there would be grumbling when she got frustrated. She'll pick anything up with practice.

Preexisting skills: She knows a bunch of magic, and has at least serviceable skill with martial arts (Bajiquan, specifically—Chinese martial arts where your body is the weapon, lots of kicks and punches, etc.).
Skills sought: She wants to improve her skills even further in martial arts/hand-to-hand combat, and possibly build more muscle strength! She is very fit and muscular for a smol Japanese girl, anyway, but she wants to be able to kick some serious ass if she loses the ability to use her magic during a mission. Also, people who can teach her how to kill—as far as taking a life without your feelings interfering, that sort of thing.
Notes: Rin will be a super dedicated and loyal student. Really, she's just looking for people who will spar with her and not be afraid to go all out in a fight. She can have a pretty abrasive personality—she feels her emotions honestly, she's loud, she gets irritated if someone insults her—but it's worth mentioning that she's thoughtful and constantly thinking about/caring for other people, too... At her core, she's a giant squishy worrywart (who blushes a little too much).

Skills sought: He would settle for basic self defense. He probably doesn't have the capacity for much more than that. He would like to learn the very basics of hand-to-hand so he doesn't automatically get whupped anytime someone throws a punch. He would also like to learn how to aim and shoot projectile weapons. Gun, bow, whatever.
Notes: He is going to be dogged, determined, but a very slow physical learner, and he will probably grouse a lot. If his teacher laughs at him or shouts at him, he will bail. He's a sensitive little arse when it comes to his total physical incompetency and as much as he would never admit it outright, he could really use some encouragement.

Preexisting skills: Laedo's a trained soldier in his sparkle-dragon war, and has a human form he's spent a lot of time training in as well. He's quite proficient with magical and physical combat.
Skills sought:
-He'd like to continue practicing against multiple opponents... though that's a hell of a lot to thread out so I'm looking to see if anyone wants to handwave sparring whose character would actually be up at the crack-end of the morning for a couple of hours. (Either in human form with hand-to-hand or blades, or in dragon form with teeth and claws and tail and wings)
-He very much wants to learn how to recognize, assess, and counter other kinds of magic. Where he's from the only magic he's ever had to fight has been stuff he instinctively notices and recognizes as wrong. I wouldn't mind an excuse to write cheesy sparkle-fights, too.
Notes:
Laedo can take direction surprisingly well, though he learns better from those he respects or believes have the same intentions in mind. He doesn't like fighting for competition (though when pressed his
egohonour will demand it) and will quickly pull out the stops if he believes he's being mocked or treated poorly. He'll prefer to seek out teachers who are pretty chill. He's such a hard-ass that touching butts with another hard-ass is likely to cause a fragmentation of space-time... though I mean if such a thing were to occur at least they're in the best organization for it to happen... so hit him up with whatever you got!

Notes: olivia is a very dedicated learner, to the point she might even seek out several teachers. she's got the athleticism to fight, but may lack that ~killer's instinct~ (though she has participated in war before, and killed); ideally i'd love for someone to teach her how to take advantage of how light-of-feet she is, and her small stature
