school for kids who can't fight good and want to learn how to do other stuff good too

Hey guys! With Ramir's recent post in mind, I figured I'd throw something together for characters looking to be taught or teach fighty stuff. So here's an OOC planning thing for it! You don't have to have tagged the post to participate, you can assume your character found out there's lessons going on through word of mouth, or however else you like. And on a similar note, Ramir would be happy to play matchmaker and pair teachers with students if you're not sure how the connection might kick off, or you can also handwave that having taken place elsewise. Whatever works!

If you play a teacher, go ahead and use this form and post it in the teacher thread:

And students, here's your form for the student thread:

Once that's all filled out, go student/teacher shopping! And yes, you can totally sign up under both headers. Pick up new skills, grab CR you've been coveting for a while! I'm figuring teachers could have multiple students and students could have multiple teachers, just to spread the CR all around. You're also welcome to either plan out threads here, or just talk out and handwave how the lessons would go.

Whereas Laedo's Guard training makes him more of a blitzer; his kind usually work in wings that divebomb the enemy and wear down their defenses before sending in the particularly vicious to close-quarters magic fights and a final blood-letting... so though he's got magic on reserve that allows him to fight for much longer than a human, he still tends to go all in.

They might have somewhat similar fighting styles, with a blade, though again Laedo uses his sword and dagger more to get around an enemy's defenses and draw blood. He's working off of the idea of swiping with teeth and claws, not drawn-out war dances.

Kojuro's blade style is a lot less acrobatic than most of the other swordfighters in Senba (including Masamune) - a lot more direct, though he does have like... a side-step backstab combo, I'll see if I can find a video clip of it.

If you do, I'd be curious to see it. Want to handwave the actual fighting, perhaps, and toss together a thread some time either during or a little before they head out for their next mission where they chat about other things? Might be nice to have a base from which to start branching into other topics, especially if they're both not very well versed in caring for baby blobs.

This one is decent, and then while Laedo (hopefully) won't see it, this one has some good examples of how he fights when he's pissed off - whenever he's got that light red glow around him, that's his alternative and far more aggressive mode.

And that sounds like an excellent plan! I'm going to try to do a top-level for the new mission log, though probably not until tomorrow.

Man, he gets far more aggressive with the kicks and shoves when he's mad. That's an intense looking game, too! I haven't really thought through how Laedo fights with accompanying visuals, at least not in the same sense that game mechanics use, but it's interesting to consider how to integrate some of what you're seeing (like the lightning bolts and blue buffs and such) into a thread.

Yeah, it doesn't happen often in the more storybased stuff (only once in the anime, and like twice in game cutscenes) but it's pretty alarming when he does because the change is really obvious. The elemental alignments in Basara are interesting, but also a little frustrating - they're kind of shounen power-up that is just treated as like, a totally normal thing that people have and not remotely magic which gets confusing when you try to compare it to other canons. His element is lightning and it's kind of there as like... a background? to most of his attacks. Other than the lightning-ball-shooting one but that's silly and I ignore it.

Interesting, so it's something that you'd rather not be mentioned much in terms of DWRP threads? Or would having it be called out be something you'd ever like to touch on?

Ah, sorry - I meant more that the elemental attacks aren't his primary attacks. I've used it once or twice in game already! Just... in-game explanations of it it are probably going to be vague XD Also, I realized that since they both stayed behind on Nalawi, they may have started training together then? Particularly given that Kojuro's main sparring partner wasn't there.

Since Laedo and Haise were already beginning to practice, I could easily see them taking turns. They're all powerful enough that either they could fight two to one with one another (though Laedo is rusty in his human form and would probably have performed the most weakly without magic, honestly!) or one on one while the other rests and observes, if there was some kind of wind down time while others were preparing for dinner.

I like the fact that we got to have a few people stay back on Nalawi. It's a good basis from which to build up some of that more stoic CR that might not have time to be played out over the course of more hectic events!
