life's no fun without a good scare [ a small plot for blood frenzy ]
So, ya boy Koltira Deathweaver has problems. If you've been threading with him recently, you might have noticed references to sudden bouts of pain/wincing/ear folding/things of that nature. As a death knight, he suffers from what's called ~*The Endless Hunger*~, which means that he has to inflict agony'n'terror on other people with at least some frequency. He's already in pain 100% of the time, but if he fails to satisfy his curse, his pain grows by leaps and bounds. Eventually, it turns into wracking spasms of such intensity that he loses himself to a blood-seeking hysteria.
Though he recently received a ring from ALASTAIR to help with this problem, he's been on the precipice of a frenzy for some time now. It's been about nine months since he last lost his shit, and there just hasn't been enough murder in the interim (the squidge mission was a gentle break for everyone else & actual hell on earth for him).
AT THE SAME TIME ... it's been about six years since there was an update to Koltira's story in-game. When Warcraft last left him, he was caught out by Sylvanas Windrunner for showing loyalty to his one friend on the planet (who just happened to work for the opposite side of Azeroth's never-ending faction war). She had him dragged beneath her already underground undead necropolis for a long session of torture/brainwashing/what-have-you.
Six years later (but probably three or four in the game narrative), he's out again, and his storyline has some closure. It's time now for Koltira to pop back to where he left off and fully experience his pleasant imprisonment. As of about right now, he's disappeared from the area.
When he returns on October 10th, he will immediately go into a frenzied state.
What does this mean for you? Possibly nothing. If you'd like to bypass this whole situation, that's fine. It's a big desert. But if you want fun times with a half-naked, blood-starved elf, COME FORTH.
Here's how it's gonna work.
--As this is a permadeath game, I ain't looking to kill anyone, nor am I looking for Koltira to die! He is also not gonna paint Perdition's Rest red; he'll be on the near outskirts, raging in the desert. NPCs in danger will be mostly bandits, however, he will likely also accost innocent travelers. Save them! Or watch in horror; that's also fine.
--Koltira is extremely strong, both in terms of magic and in his physical abilities. During this frenzy, he'll be without his spiky armor entirely. In fact, he'll be half naked, and wearing broken chains on his wrists and ankles. His body will be scored with torture marks--wounds old and new, burns and lesions and so forth.
But he's like that raid boss the party finds at half health and so thinks 'NP NP he's nearly dead already', when in reality that status just means he's extra vicious. He is vulnerable, but also extremely fast.
However, he doesn't want this. He has some vestige of himself in frenzy, bobbing in and out, and he will actively fight himself to stop. This is happening because he's in terrible, unavoidable pain, and he will feel wretched remorse after it's all over.
--That said, these encounters will likely be more than a little nasty. Death knights are out of control disgusting: their power set involves insects, plagues, blood boiling, rapid decay of organic + inorganic material, and summoning actual zombie hordes. Threads can be calibrated to your comfort, so no worries there, but if you're looking to get gross for Halloween, KOLTIRA IS YOUR MAN.
--He is also a sadomasochist, and full of depraved thoughts. These usually simmer below the surface, but obviously he has 0 percent inhibition during a frenzy. So that's an extra awful layer for you.
--Encounters can be quick and relatively light on the ick factor, or more involved, depending on what you'd like to do. I will say that I am not comfortable writing explicit anything (gore and/or sadism-themed thoughts) with underage characters, though they can certainly have less heavy interactions.
--Ultimately, Koltira will run away for most of these fights, usually after a moment of awful lucidity. He will keep running until he's become so battered that he can't move/the pain subsides enough for him to think again. So, please do beat the hell out of him--just keep in mind that he's often gonna give much worse than he gets.
