EVENT WRITE-UP: LOST IN TRANSLATION
TRANSLATION ERROR PLOTTING POST ![]() Welcome back to Oska! After arriving back from Zeta-12, characters will notice that they are no longer be able to understand each other if they do not speak the same language. This extends to writing as well. This is effective immediately on arrival and will last for a full IC day. On the second IC day, text translation will be operational again, following a notification from the magitek technicians Crowley and Cherenkov about what exactly is going on. This won't exactly be the relaxing downtime recruits may have come to expect from Oska -- they'll need to channel their inner exterminator if they want to be able to understand one another. Temporal insects are the cause of the crisis, and descriptions of them are available on the log. Please direct any questions you may have below in the comments section. Verbal translation errors will continue through the end of August, at which point the second leg of the infestation begins. Stay tuned for further information! NEW RECRUITS Welcome to Futurology! Please make sure you review the welcome page before tagging around -- however, there will be one change -- arrival will be randomized by a mod to an Oska Location, and once there, they won't be receiving the same spiel from Lloyd that everyone else has heard. This is because, obviously, they won't be able to understand him! Instead, established recruits will be available to gesture helplessly at you (or speak to you in a mutually-comprehensible language, if you're lucky). Once text translation is operational, new recruits will receive the standard welcome note from Lloyd via text. (This interaction will be handwaved, so please make sure you review the welcome page linked above.) PLOTTING Please use this spreadsheet to help facilitate plotting! Fill out your character's spoken languages and use it as reference when figuring out who speaks what. Established recruits may sign up to be a welcome buddy below. These positions will not be ICly assigned based on anything but compatible language (if applicable), so don't worry if your character isn't completely up to snuff on their understanding of ALASTAIR. Once text translation is operational, Lloyd will give new recruits the standard arrival information via text. QUESTIONS? Ask below! However, please direct general game questions to the FAQ. WELCOME BUDDY Please sign up below if you would like your character to introduce new recruits to what ALASTAIR is all about. You will be assigned to a buddy that best matches your character's language skills, and your character will be asked by an NPC to go and find their new friend. These sign ups are first come first serve, and we might be matching characters up out of sign-up order to best accommodate languages spoken! We will notate when the sign ups are full. |

One Piece is, as I'm sure you imagine, the most nonsense series when it comes to the world it's based in and the understanding of its structure. So that also means that it's 'Language' is one that's so confusing that we don't know what to do, HAHA.
It's shown in series that their newspapers APPEAR to be written in Japanese, but the headings and titles are in English.
The characters are shown to write in Japanese,(On some of Luffy's drawings, there's also bad writing.) but their wanted posters are all in English.
The word 'MARINE' is always in English on their uniforms and Flagships... but the word 'TRUE JUSTICE' is always on their banners and Captain/Admiral coats in Japanese.
Do we assume their language is some... really messed up toss-together of the two languages, or is it safe to assume they can speak/read... both...?
Help us mods we don't know what to do.

"It's highly recommended you kill or otherwise chase off an insect before it manages this, as it can do irreversible damage to a world."
I'm interested in engaging in this on a deeper level but I'm not sure if this information is public knowledge -- ie. would the NPCs have announced it at some point? -- or if this is something characters can (and should?) ICly discover over the course of threading. Basically, I'm curious as to what limitations you guys have on that, if any, before I go hog-wild.
Thanks!
