ANYTHING OF NOTE?: Serene has been a inconsistent guardian emulating her own raising. She yells at Lilac when she gets into trouble, tries to solve crying by immediately stuffing food into Lilac's mouth, scares her squidge with her irritation and then kisses and praises her when she realises she's being a bad mother. These are very mixed messages

Not long after she arrives back in Oska, Serene receives the following information:

The other squidges do their best with Lilac, but her personality is somewhat unpredictable. She is by turns affectionate and fearful, and seems to expect coddling after even the slightest mistake. When particularly upset, Lilac will frighten her fellow squidges with a threat display of her sharp teeth. She has a few close friends, but did not integrate well into overall squidge society. She likes to lay in fields of happygrass and sleep.
