re: network post infos (extra ooc details)

Hello, Futurology! I'm sorry for not having this done when I posted Masamune's network post, but I hope the information under the cut will give you guys OOCly a good rundown on the council meetings that Masamune had and what information he got from them. I did this since not likely to reveal everything unless the proper questions are asked because he's not always the best with considering ALL the details.

I also apologize for my delay in replying to the post— I wanted to get this out for everyone before tagging it any further. I am a little crunched for time this weekend unexpectedly, but I will do my absolute best to reply, so, if you want to use any of this information in your plans for CR/activities/etc., you aren't waiting very long.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask in the comments. Have a nice day, everyone!

Audience w/ the Council
In regards to: this network post!

This is an OOC information write up to let everyone see exactly what Masamune was given information on. While it is only OOC knowledge, I don't have a problem with people using the information to have their characters ask specific questions! Although Masamune is going to give a "written writeup", he's not exactly very patient or picky on recording details.
    Masamune's IC written note.

      - nalawi vs dakal war ended 30-50 years ago

      - war started several hundred years ago and had been ongoing rather than a full-out constant barrage of attacks on each other (one battle after another, etc.)

      - nalanni loves everyone blahblah

      - except dakal when they piss her off for trying to destroy her volcano.

      - nalawi convinced nalanni has been taken from them against their will

      - all "dark magic", such as rituals and sacrifices and reviving the dead, etc. are not known to the nalawi. ryba's domain. nalawi have worshipped nalanni for several thousand years. ryba and others were worshipped before that.

      - one council member ran off wearing crazy eyes. female, dark robes. convinced ryba will "save us all". probably a good idea to find her.

      - there's a lot of crazy on these islands.

    OOC full summary.

Most of the information is direct copy/paste from the mods, although I removed irrelevant things that were directed to me as clarification where I could!

      1) On the Nalawi Lifespan and the war: The Nalawi live about as long as humans. The eldest of the (current) Nalawi were soldiers in the war themselves. So it can be surmised that the war ended somewhere around 30-50 years ago. However, The start of the war was some several hundred years.

      2) In regards to their shark hunting abilities but seeming to not be able to do much else in terms of skills: the Nalawi themselves are a particularly ferocious group of people who, after living with superpowers for so long, don't fear very much.

      3) How long has it been since they began to worship her: The Nalawi have worshipped Nalanni for as far back as their historical record goes; any worship of demi-gods or of Ryba would have been in their equivalent of prehistoric times. Once they received Nalanni's favor (thousands of years ago), they had no need for any other gods.

      4) On asking if Nalanni only allows worship from "one race/species" at a time or can multiple ones worship her: The council members will explain that anyone who worships Nalanni will technically also be Nalawi! The word 'Nalawi' means 'people of Nalanni,' so it's not so much the name of their race or civilization as it is their religion. Nalanni loves everyone, they say, so she will doubtless accept worshippers of any shape or size.

      5) On Nalanni's disappearance, if she's ever abandoned them before, when they received their blessing from Nalanni, and what could they have done to "anger" her that would make some of the Nalawi think she has abandoned them: The Nalawi had their powers long before the war began. The Nalawi are certain that Nalanni has simply gone missing because that's the only possible explanation that makes sense to them. So if she has gone missing, giving her flowers won't help very much. As far as Nalanni having abandoned them previously, this has never happened before. Nalanni asks nothing of them except their love, so there is nothing they could have done to deserve her abandoning them -- and thus, they assume she's gone missing against her will.

      6) Did the Dakal ever worship Nalanni? What exactly did this war happen over that the Nalawi felt justified in the extermination of an entire race? : As for the Dakal, they didn't worship Nalanni. As far as the Nalawi know, they were entirely godless. The causes of the war have been lost to time, but the council seems to agree that it had something to do with their godlessness or arguments over land or something along those lines. It happened so long ago (hundreds of years) that it simply turned into a long-standing feud between neighbouring nations. The extinction of the Dakal, they will mention, was not entirely their doing; the Dakal found Nalanni's volcano (Nalalona) and attempted to destroy it. Furious that the Dakal were hurting her in this way, Nalanni walked west to their islands and crushed them to the bottom of the ocean. In this way, it was not an intentional genocide, but they aren't exactly sorry to see the Dakal have been destroyed.

      7) Is there anything the Council knows of (a ritual or sacrifice or something) that could theoretically be used to reclaim the dead or something similarly huge/extravagant a feat. Since all their powers are disappearing (Nalawi and PCs), it is as if they are being sucked dry to Masamune, maybe, rather than everything being "taken away"? If being "drained" was the case rather than the powers disappearing, what sort of things could possibly be done with all that magic gathered into one area/in the control of the same individual? (AKA: why would someone do something like this?): The Nalawi have no knowledge of such dark magics. It's at this point that the council will become uncomfortable with his line of questioning, as sacrifice and the raising of the dead are the doings of the sea goddess Ryba. One councilwoman, dressed in robes darker and heavier than the rest of the council, becomes particularly agitated. While the rest of them are politely asking Masamune to leave and that they don't wish to discuss such dark things, the councilwoman gets up and shouts at them with wide, haunted eyes that they are all fools to shy away from the great power of Ryba. "She will save us all," the councilwoman says, then rushes out in a flurry of dark robes. The rest of the council is stunned and, after an awkward silence, repeat their request for Masamune to leave them be.

    notes.

▶ Masamune met with the council several times before obtaining all this information, at they would be very busy in their heated debates and ask him to come back the next day.

▶ With the council requesting him to leave them be, he respectfully showed himself out and did so without haste to suggest he was in a hurry to leave, anyway. He does look for the council member that ran off, but she's nowhere in sight by the time he exits. This is around the time of his broadcast.

▶ Masamune will tell people that the Nalawi had nothing to do with the genocide of the Dakal. However, it's important to mention that Masamune is a warlord and that there are rules of engagement and assumptions of things that happen in war. So, one could argue if they weren't at war to begin with or if they didn't have their gifts from Nalanni giving them such an advantage, they never would have attempted to harm Nalanni and wouldn't have infuriated her. So, he really means they had nothing to do with the actual instigation or the act of the genocide. However, they were more than okay to let it happen (and were pretty OK/even happy that it happened because hey our enemy is done with!) Basically, it was quite convenient for them.

▶ I understand that only half the game can respond to this at present, but it was decided by the mods that it would work better for the narrative to have #6 & #7 revealed after everyone is separated. Still, please feel free once the group is back together again to have your character drill Masamune for recaps/filling in if any of their friends don't give them a satisfactory enough rundown.
