By now all of the puzzles have been distributed to the characters who will be encountering them, and the players have received the messages that solving them unlocks.
This post is for unraveling the general mystery at work here. Each of the messages is a part of solving the last puzzle, which we are giving to players to work out. Solving this will unlock an encounter with an NPC, and the first person to do so will have a chance to have the first thread with them to get answers about this event. If multiple people get it, or the first person declines to thread, we will use an RNG.
We ask that players who received messages post them in the appropriate thread on this entry as soon as possible. We will have a thread for guessing the answer to the very last puzzle, and of course you are welcome to speculate and guess with each other on this entry! If you have any other theories about what forces might be at work behind this event, are welcome to submit those as well. Players with correct theories (or just close enough theories) will be rewarded ICly with plot information or useful trinkets.
This entry will be open for guessing until someone gets the correct answer or the 24th, whichever comes first.
And as a final, unrelated note, remember that we’ve got new characters coming in, several of which have posted to the event log! Don’t miss them!
I HAVEN'T KEPT TRACK OF ALL THE DETAILS but I feel like maybe it's a test or something from ALISTAIR itself... idk that's what my red wine is telling me, but red wine can occasionally not be very wise.
I wanted to plus one that this was my general assumption as a simulation to test the recruits to make sure they can deal with harsher world environments !
Correct! At some point after Hell Week, Masamune will find a small silver flask waiting for him somewhere. Once a liquid has been poured into this flask, of any amount, it will never be empty of it, unless he is specifically trying to pour out the last of it.
That's right! Also correct that it was rude! At some point after the Hell Week, one of your characters (which one is up to you) will find a small silvery hand mirror. Staring into it while thinking of another ALASTAIR recruit will show a scene as if from that character's eyes. It will only work once a day.
Going to agree with this, but not just a test to pass/fail, but also to see what recruits do under duress. The weather? Testing their ability to find shelter and work together. New recruits in the basement? Testing team cohesion, and how much they care about each other-- are they going to leave someone behind to save their own hide, or are they going to try and keep everyone together? Turning the communicators off tests how well they can keep together as a group when there's no magical method of contacting fellow recruits.
Some of the clues on the event post were magical in nature, so that would test their ability to both detect magic and follow those clues to some kind of conclusion. (I think there were even some potions in there-- will they just drink random potions without knowing what they do?) The clue Undyne received was a scuffle that went into the lake which brings in elements of deductive reasoning and search & rescue. And so on and so forth! I'm also guessing that there are either multiple "stories" in the exercise as well, with the intent that recruits flesh these out and figure out one from another. If it's not multiple stories, then it's a mishmash of elements that they'll see in upcoming missions. (Or maybe even both.)
You are correct on all counts! Nice one. After Hell Week ends, Undyne will at some point discover a javelin sitting around somewhere. Along with being apparently unbreakable despite being made of simple wood and steel, its user can call down one daily, localized torrential downpour that lasts about 5 minutes.
You and your red wine are correct! When Hell Week ends, Graham will find a cloak, neatly folded up and waiting for him somewhere of your choosing. He will find that no matter the temperature, it always keeps him perfectly comfortable. It even protects against arctic levels of cold and volcanic levels of heat.

That's my best guess anyway. :>
