ONE LAST PUZZLE
By now all of the puzzles have been distributed to the characters who will be encountering them, and the players have received the messages that solving them unlocks.
This post is for unraveling the general mystery at work here. Each of the messages is a part of solving the last puzzle, which we are giving to players to work out. Solving this will unlock an encounter with an NPC, and the first person to do so will have a chance to have the first thread with them to get answers about this event. If multiple people get it, or the first person declines to thread, we will use an RNG.
We ask that players who received messages post them in the appropriate thread on this entry as soon as possible. We will have a thread for guessing the answer to the very last puzzle, and of course you are welcome to speculate and guess with each other on this entry! If you have any other theories about what forces might be at work behind this event, are welcome to submit those as well. Players with correct theories (or just close enough theories) will be rewarded ICly with plot information or useful trinkets.
This entry will be open for guessing until someone gets the correct answer or the 24th, whichever comes first.
And as a final, unrelated note, remember that we’ve got new characters coming in, several of which have posted to the event log! Don’t miss them! |

The citizens and livestock, etc., of Oska are still around, they're just trapped in plain sight. They're magically concealed in the trees, the air, the water, the walls, and even particular objects. Whatever the case may be, the inhabitants of ALASTAIR's base are capable of magic, some of it particularly associated with the elements. That message the recruits received on their communicators when they arrived is telling the actual truth; they are trapped, and they can't be freed whether it's because of something keeping them trapped or that they still have to stay trapped out of necessity (like a dangerous enemy would attack them if they reappeared).
Some big bad—maybe like a force of enemies, or gods?—initiated an attack on the people. Part of the assault was setting off a volcano too early/something threatening involving a volcano. There may have been a particular culprit or culprits who set everything in motion from the inside. The attack may have taken place at a really bad time for the Oska residents to defend themselves, because they were otherwise occupied or for another reason.
Whoever played a key role in leading the attack read up on information in the library to form their plans. Maybe he or she is a citizen of Oska who's just naturally magically gifted and far enhanced that power? Maybe even other ALASTAIR recruits returning to the base are to blame, and they gained so much power and magic over time that eventually they were "as gods". Maybe the culprit was someone so celebrated and appreciated by the people of Oska that they didn't expect any wrongdoing on his or her behalf. So, the culprit (or culprits) arrive, they're celebrated, stuff goes down, everything becomes terrible.
A key culprit (the main culprit?? or the group of enemies altogether, if there were multiple) was locked up, and the dungeons are relatively intact because of him or her—either through his or her power or because keeping their prison intact is important for having the current recruits deal with the threat. This might be what is meant in the message on the communicators by them being "still here", they're purposefully placed in a scenario where recruits would be likely to question them instead of kill them, etc.
The instigator of the attack is still in the dungeons?? Possibly?
There may be a personal story at play re: the puzzles. Like something involving jealousy, or revenge, retaliation, love,
thirst... As one probably really lame idea that occurred to me, the culprit had some personal drama going on with other people in Oska and that's what started everything.I think the weather events can be associated with the volcano.
Also maybe this is all a demo by ALASTAIR like it was said above, and for solving the puzzles/surviving everyone is going to be rewarded with a giant Valentine's celebration because lbr ALASTAIR knows how their recruits roll

"Look to the end" = "look to the end of each sentence"
The letter at the end of the last word in each message adds up to form "stable", when the clues are ordered from Day 2 to Day 7.

Some of the clues on the event post were magical in nature, so that would test their ability to both detect magic and follow those clues to some kind of conclusion. (I think there were even some potions in there-- will they just drink random potions without knowing what they do?) The clue Undyne received was a scuffle that went into the lake which brings in elements of deductive reasoning and search & rescue. And so on and so forth! I'm also guessing that there are either multiple "stories" in the exercise as well, with the intent that recruits flesh these out and figure out one from another. If it's not multiple stories, then it's a mishmash of elements that they'll see in upcoming missions. (Or maybe even both.)
That's my best guess anyway. :>

I don't think this is Oska at all--they're either caught up in a dream or a memory, or perhaps a dreamscape based on someone's (a senior ALASTAIR agent's?) memory. Maybe from before Oska became a 'hub'/other universes were discovered? From the settings page: "Since the discovery of other universes, most inhabitants of Oska have cleared out, only a small group of people remaining." Are they reliving that moment of space-time continuum ripping? Hence the huge weirdness with things disappearing, ice in the lake, volcano where there is none, etc.
Alternatively: this is an alternate timeline where Oska goes to shit. Maybe ALASTAIR has some rivals on the 'time police' scene?
