EVENT FOLLOW-UP: WHAT DO YOU CALL A PROBLEM LIKE MICHEL?

EVENT FOLLOW-UP

As of the 30th, Michel has taken over the castle, with Rin, Saber, Aqua, Alice, Sieglinde and Gilgamesh inside. He plans to take the throne for himself, whatever it takes. His brother, Arthur, has come to ALASTAIR with a message: he's become too dangerous to let live.

Only one character will be chosen to attempt to take out Michel early on the 31st. They will be chosen by a combination of RNG and suitability -- the RNG pool will be made up of characters suited for the job. There will be many action options involved even for those who don't go straight to Michel, so don't worry about missing out at all! However, if your character would ICly volunteer to take him down, please sign up here!

Due to the time-sensitive nature of this plot, you have until January 31st, 12:01 AM GMT to submit your character.

As for characters who disagree that Michel needs to be killed, there's a subthread below to discuss plotting options. All alternative suggestions should also be made ICly on Arthur's network post.

perma_banned: (magical girl power)

[personal profile] perma_banned 2016-01-30 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
CHARACTER NAME: Ban
SUITABILITY: Ban's an exceptionally sneaky and agile superhuman with magic that can rip someone's heart out of their chest from afar--or, up close, in a flash. To boot, he can drain someone of their strength and stamina. Signing him up, since he's the amoral sort who'd do this without hesitation and from the shadows.
dishearten: \ (Default)

[personal profile] dishearten 2016-01-30 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
CHARACTER NAME: Graham / the huntsman
SUITABILITY: he is very sneaky, see his title from the enchanted forest, and is good with a bow and arrow, stated to never miss! he wouldn't like it but he would kill to protect people from a crazy unrestrained magical force. he has killed before and could and would do it again in the right circumstances.
darkbarrage: (um ♞ like this.)

[personal profile] darkbarrage 2016-01-30 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
CHARACTER NAME: Riku
SUITABILITY: Riku's come into this with the ability to fight extremely well for his age and cast mostly offensive magic. As he is part of the group that was on its way to meet the king, he would have reason to kill especially if he thought it might endanger the rest of the group inside. At barely five feet, Riku's small enough to hide in most small places and can portal short distances when magic is allowed, enabling him to reach hard-to-reach safe spots. Riku might falter at first but would follow through in killing Michel.

As Michel has shown himself to be a threat to the town/world, Riku would consider it a Keybearer's duty to strike him down to keep everyone safe, and he can do that. It comes down to a matter of duty to something bigger than ALASTAIR--what awaits him back home.
anti_altruisms: (Eyes that never miss.)

[personal profile] anti_altruisms 2016-01-30 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
CHARACTER NAME: Archer
SUITABILITY: Archer is a Servant with hundreds (if not thousands) of years of combat experience. Aside from being proficient with swords and at archery (and possessing a vast arsenal of bladed weapons that can be projected at will) he has been summoned into various eras (in canon) in order to "fix" timelines and eliminate threats to humanity's existence. He has killed many, many times, and given the threat that Michel poses, he would not hesitate to kill him for the sake of the people of Chantes. He would be willing to fight Michel head-to-head or shoot him in the back, whichever is most convenient. He is very magical himself so he is well-equipped for this. Killing the few for the sake of the many is basically what he's done for a long time, and he wouldn't care how he did it as long as it got done.
anti_altruisms: (Smile like you mean it.)

[personal profile] anti_altruisms 2016-01-31 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
Ahhh, thank you so much, guys! I will do that shortly. c:
wardance: (pic#9961965)

[personal profile] wardance 2016-01-30 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
CHARACTER NAME: Masamune Date
SUITABILITY: Masamune is skilled with weapons and magic and killed plenty. His magic also doesn't use incantations or require a source (his magic is lightning/electricity, but he doesn't need a current around as he can create one from pulling the air) and can be used offensively and defensively. He is not generally sneaky in his tactics for fighting/killing but could do it.

buuuttt... His skills aren't why he'd offer to do it ICly (he knows there are plenty of people here that are perfectly capable better suited to pulling off an assassination.) It would come from the fact Arthur himself is the one asking for it. That means it isn't merely a decision made by a detached group of people to take a problematic character out; it's a request from a family member that previously risked everything to rescue the same person from execution prior. Since Masamune killed his own younger brother (also the result of a 'no other choice' sentiment), he feels he sort of 'gets it' as far as Arthur goes and, as someone who can at least relate on that level, offering to do it is the only right of him.
adlantisag: (» 129)

[personal profile] adlantisag 2016-01-30 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
CHARACTER NAME: Kida
SUITABILITY: Kida's about as magical as old socks, so the fact that magic is nerfed inside the castle doesn't really faze her or affect her skill, and said skill has been honed for hundreds of years. She uses a spear and knife, so she'd need to get closer to kill than someone shooting from afar, but she's plenty capable of silent movement and being stealthy, and by now she knows the castle layout well. Sneaking in shouldn't be a problem, if there are even still guards to defend the "king".

From a personal IC standpoint: Sieglinde's in there, so Kida will be doubly motivated to get this over with fast. Michel is someone she has no friendly feelings for to begin with, having spent two miserable weeks in jail with him and knowing him for a hate-filled windbag.

In terms of capacity for the task at hand, the first thing we learn about Kida's personality is that her usual response to visitors is murder, and she's killed in-game before. Suffice to say, she's more than prepared to put the needs of the many over the life of one, especially if Michel poses a threat to the entire city.

I... don't have any real plans right now, but I will say that Phoenix is more than willing to assist anybody attempting alternate solutions, which may be one of the rare times he's willing to get off his duff to do something really dangerous.

The Accords don't give a shit.

Loki would be up for you know, not killing Michel to (possibly) make the King angry.

He'd like to either convince Michel to join ALASTAIR (without ALASTAIR's approval maybe WHOOPS) and join the multiversal masses. If that doesn't work, possibly a "happy accident" to kick him through some multiversal fabric maybe and find himself in ALASTAIR's arms maybe.

Maybe.

Ahad's going to tentatively support this.

Possibly with the suggestion that they kill the king instead.

[personal profile] dailydouble 2016-01-30 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, Ahad's still wondering about the death of the queen and frankly the king is a bigger asshole than Michel.

Maybe Arthur can rule. He seems reasonable.
wright_idea: (Fer the luvva Christ.)

[personal profile] wright_idea 2016-01-31 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
Phoenix would suggest NOT killing the king until they find out how involved he was in the Queen's death, frankly.

[personal profile] defenceless 2016-01-30 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
While she can talk all day about the necessity of killing Michel, when it comes to the critical moment it'd be difficult for Rin to take a life, herself. She wouldn't stand in the way of other characters adopting a more direct approach or impede them unless it was clearly reasonable, safe, and a better option, but it's also fair to say she'd be working to support an alternative suggestion from the inside of the castle. (She is also stuck with a non-working communicator, so she could not voice any ideas through the network; however, maybe handwaved passing on of notes could account for that?)

well first off why don't we just stick him with the demons, you know

did i only do this for a doom repercussions of evil joke? not entirely

But generally she'd support finding a method of turning his magic back on him, otherwise working from within his own powers and tactics to imprison him or weaken him in some way, or just plain knocking him out so that he can be held accountable and—she would never admit it openly, but—maybe helped. You never know.

If there was some way to make it so those within the castle got their magical abilities returned, she and others may be able to actively assist in carrying out alternative suggestions to addressing the Michel problem. If Michel is in the castle, sneak attacks and the sort might be possible, or ambushes? I DON'T KNOW. They can send out Gilgamesh as bait.

though tbh, our plans may merge well.

Yes! I was just thinking that! I like your ideas, too! I guess their main problem would be opening up the castle, which I'm not sure how to accomplish that right now.

loki's a sneak and a half, so if there's a crack in the foundation, he can wiggle through.

That's the thing, the castle is magically sealed from anyone moving in or moving out, now. Message from the mods is here. They can slip paper and stuff underneath the main door but I'm not sure if there's any openings big enough for Loki to slip through, or for other characters to pass over items.
selfimage: — ɢᴀʀʙᴇᴛᴛ — (Fantastic voyage.)

[personal profile] selfimage 2016-01-30 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
i wonder how big the opening beneath the main door is, as loki can ... become a pretty small snake. thank for shapeshifters.

[personal profile] defenceless 2016-02-01 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh, cool! Yeah, that's worth asking about, I think. If a paper could get back and forth, I'd think a snake would fit?

+ note

[personal profile] defenceless 2016-01-30 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
If they could find natural materials for demon-warding or to mess up the magical effect set on the castle, that's a possible avenue to pursue. These could be as simple as herbs from the kitchen.

Sieglinde says she has some demon warding magic, tbh it could probably pass on to Loki pretty easily (since she looks like she'll be MIA).

[personal profile] defenceless 2016-01-30 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that would work! Rin would know of some remedies/things to try with what they would find around the castle, too. She could pass ideas on underneath the door.

[personal profile] defenceless 2016-02-01 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm probably going to have to pull Rin out of any "save Michel" plans IC-ly, at least ones that take place after Archer enters the castle! She'd know he was there to murder Michel and she absolutely would not interfere without a very good reason.

She'd value the lives of the other citizens over Michel himself, too, once they were able to leave the castle.

Double-pronged suggestion:

in the castle: convince and escort Arthur in to make a final plea for Michel to stoooooop this maaaaadneeeeeeessssssssss and resume stewardship of the Order of the Chimera — now as a group looking to help Chantes' magic users, as they come to terms with their powers/ancestry. Namedrop all the goblins/people who are in favour of peace and cohabitation (which ALASTAIR members'll have rallied as part of the diplomatic effort options).

Meanwhile, have a makeshift team of ALASTAIR's magic/Force/science!!! users infiltrate the castle and start exorcism rites/damage control procedures against Michel's demon frands. If Michel decides he wants his Disney ending and backs down on... the whole world domination thing... this team can just peacefully focus on dealing with the demons. If Michel nopes out of negotiations, they can provide back-up and help capture our mad king bro. The already trapped damsels in castle distress ALASTAIR members could probably be super helpful in providing intel / direction for stuff like this, since they'd know the way of the land.

in the city of townsville: some ALASTAIR members need to go into that city, temporarily evac most civilians, then lead some volunteer humans/goblins to hunt down the runes. Panic breeds peace, hurrah team spirit??? Michel should probably be held alive/conscious at least long enough for ALASTAIR folks to figure out how many runes they are dealing with and exactly what those things or any mechanisms guarding them do.

Nico could actually help if they do an evacuation - by which I mean the fact that she owns a megaphone could actually help. She can relay instructions! ...But she'd be rubbish at planning an evacuation, so she'd need someone to actually produce those instructions. (She might be able to help keep people calm as long as they like pop music performances!)
