Vaccine/cure efforts + information spreading/gathering!

Hello Futuro! After asking the mods about taking a vaccine route with the virus, to at least protect those who are not infected, we have been given a way to at least prevent further spread. However this requires teamwork!

A know of a few people who are in a position to work on these things (like Urahara, Sieglinde, Sonia, Peter etc) and have been for a while, but anyone who is able to contribute at this point who I don't know of etc it'd be great if we could all get together to think of ideas and questions of how best to handle this and how to maybe even out responsibilities or to come up with a game plan. If you think there should be a network post for all this to be handled icly, one of us can do that too I think?

However!! I would also like to note that this is not limited to science.

First and foremost, if anyone has information from CYOA about the hospital or anything that would be helpful please pass it on (probably to Urahara lbr he's the one with a permanent position there). I'm not sure if anyone plans on doing an info network post for all the information people are gathering (??) Mettaton has posted with some information to use as an information post if people want to use that! though it'd be a good idea if people can share what they know and how they'll share that information here as well - especially if they wouldn't comment to that post. Other than plurk there isn't really a resource other than the dossier page and I'm not sure if anyone is still checking that!

In regards to the vaccine, they will need materials for making the vaccine which may be better off taken from suppliers rather than the hospital itself. (Especially after those CYOA responses... ack). Though if anyone would like to be taught how to test drugs for the virus and would like to help out in that way, we have the go ahead that we can do testing it will just take a long time! (They would specifically wish to focus on chemicals and drugs needed to combat the virus more than anything though so we could start there - then we'll have confusion when it turns out it's all okay)

As the vaccine cannot be tested on animals (as the virus doesn't infect animals) we will have to go straight to human testing, however, I would say it's more likely that any that don't work will only infect NPCs (yes, we know this is not humane but there are few options...alas) so if your character is the self sacrificing sort... that is another way to help. I asked the mods if it could coincide with RNGs though so if anyone does decide to become a test subject when they get to testing stages (which would be in about a month??? If I'm being fair with timing here) you would need to contact the mods about that. Please note that only those that signed up for the rng for infection can get infected! If you sign up for this and you did not enter rng your character will be 100% safe.

Anyone willing to follow directions and help out as an assistant would also be helpful, especially as vaccines need to be incubated and watched etc and there are only so many hours one can be awake...

If you feel like your character would struggle to contribute in these fields, there is also just fighting through the town to bring them food tbh...! Or anything else I have not thought of!

Basically, I am all for us all getting together to figure this out, because I know a bunch of us have been wanting to get involved (gym) I can also be reached on plurk at serves if you have any other questions!

okay so olivia is working as urahara's lab assistant already, and provided urahara is okay with it (i believe she's supposed to be part of his contingency plan IDK CHRIS PLS CONFIRM) she will volunteer to test the vaccine. how will she test it, you ask? by going out and trying to get infected maybe.

Sieglinde here, checking in! She's been using handicaps as an excuse for being in the hospital all the time, using a bit of illusion and spells to avoid detection in order to work with Urahara at night in the labs, so she will already be around and available to assist!

Because of her mobility and the fact that she knows people tend to think she needs protecting, she won't be volunteering to go out and do samples or do much of anything requiring action- she'll stay put in the hospital and apply herself to researching, experimenting, and observing patients.

I'm afraid work may keep me from volunteering to do a network post, but 'm available for threading and the like!

I'm not actually sure if this would be a possibility or not as I didn't put him in to be infected or carrier (a question for the mods, maybe?) but while Gio is immune to the disease himself I suppose he could potentially be a carrier? Which would show up in the blood somehow if the vaccine didn't work or something something?? So they could always test it pretty safely on him (safely in as much as he won't ever show symptoms of the disease, anyway).

Idk if that even works or makes sense but thought I'd offer anyway, he's not exactly concerned about being stuck with needles ahaha.

You can test the vaccine but just come up as safe in the later stages! The only concern is for those that rng'd as they'd have the option to rng it I think... if that helps? We can only say someone got infected with it if they were in the rng pool, so!

Riza will help gather supplies and volunteer as a test subject! She already spends half her time with an infected dude, might as well get infected in the name of science.

I would probably not trust Aang with anything but if there are simple volunteer assistant tasks to be done, he can probably do those.....

niiiiiiiiiice. I was going to have Mettaton post up on the network about sharing info and, since the infected straight up ignore him (if he isn't sassing them, PERIDOT), he's potentially extremely helpful when it comes to going into places it'd be dangerous for someone fleshy to go into.

McCree's CYOA might be helpful for this -- he found some books sealed in medical waste bags, and it looks like folks can get various samples of the virus at different stages from'em.

Asher will definitely be on a hunt for that missing hospital employee so he'll be looking for any and all leads on finding that person- I think he'll be taking advantage of the info sharing posts that go up.

He's not on Team Science but he'll be working on connecting the dots and finding a source! So he'll be doing some detective work. Asher is also capable of both driving and doing some heavy lifting, so if you need someone to transport people or... You know, carry someone who weighs a lot, he's your man!

lucina's a jock and can't help with much research, but she'll happily test the vaccine, too!! she's also been ( sorta discreetly ) helping members of audentes get info from the police station, so if that's something that could be helpful she'd be more than helpful to supply it

Also for people to consider! Urahara has deemed this mess similar enough to events in his canon that he's willing- out of desperation at this point- to try something similar to what he did then. Essentially, he stopped the worst effects of a virus by introducing something of opposing reishi dissimilar nature to the antibodies of the body infected. How I'm translating this lolscience into helpful terms is using non-human antibodies to boost the strength of both the preventative vaccines and also the potential cure.

so he'll be reaching out to the non-humans to donate blood samples for analysis (he'll be donating his own) in the hopes of introducing stronger defenses to fight off the virus. Unfortunately, this means it can ONLY be tested on humans, and if they follow this logic towards the cure, it can only be tested on infected humans until they figure out a cocktail potent enough to work on non-humans.

I am bullshitting a lot of medical jargon here at work, but basically NON HUMANS AND ASSORTED DONATE YOUR BLOOD TO SCIENCE.

Still planning on offering this idiot intelligent team player as a test subject! He's actually pretty smart, but not necessarily in like... biochemistry and stuff, so following directions from someone who knows what they're doing would also be an option. Or delivering food, you know, whatever. I'm not sure how much he'll really be able to do his actual job anymore so he can probably do all of the above!

Achilles has medical knowledge and experience, but unfortunately it's about 3000 years out of date. He will, however, be able to assist in testing the samples on patients. He is also a good candidate for gathering samples, so if your character wants to team up with him, let me know! His method will likely be to subdue the infected person and collect some blood, but he won't kill unless in self-defense. He can exhibit self-control, I promise...

Jin is an idiot gathering samples with Urahara already, both for ALASTAIR and Urahara's purposes I'm assuming, but he's also hardy enough to gather supplies, round up infected, and basically do whatever you need a big buff bara for lmao. He's also willing to help create diversions in the event of anything sneaky being necessary: he is not super sneaky but BOY HE IS GOOD AT MAKING A SCENE. Jin also has stunning arrows, if he can figure out a way to lug his bow and arrows around discreetly, which I'm sure will be useful for all this stuff as well...!!

Lilith will do all of these things too, and she has a stunning ability as well, but.... she's not willing to exceedingly stick her neck out unless you find a reason to motivate her into it B( she'll also be killing infected so, sorry.

Peter here wants to work on vaccines to keep the number of infected low and identifying a test to find the infected before they're symptomatic, as well as the cure efforts himself. he is going to end up infected, and he is super-human therefor pretty resilient to whatever needs to be tested so ah... go for it guys. I have already donated him to science but if you've got particular stuff you wanna test on infected, let me know!

He also got some info in his CYOA thread... some names that might be worth checking into?

15 minutes late with Starbucks, but here's what I've got.

Undyne found a gross discarded wig in the sewers but that's about it. But she's willing to do recon runs if supplies are needed, or play guard duty. She's fast and strong so those are things she can do pretty well. Also important to note is that she has Dogberry, who is trained in search and rescue. He's a good dog, Bront. She can bring him to threads, or I'm happy to loan him out, just PM me or hit me up on plurk.

Feferi managed to get some supplies: flashlights, OTC painkillers, and towels! Which she will be sharing with the team as necessary. She'll help in pretty much any way that she's asked, and can follow instructions well enough. For the most part...
