HAPPY BIRTHDAY

Hello, everyone!
Futurology has officially been in existence for a year as of today! Time flies when you’re having fun, doesn’t it? It’s almost hard to believe that the game has only seen three (and a quarter!) missions in that timespan, but regardless, we’d like to offer all of you a sincere thanks for your diligence, patience and kindness towards us and each other over the last twelve months.
Your creativity and openness has helped make Futurology the game it is today, and we hope it continues to in the future! We still want to hear your feedback and ideas even though the game is no longer in its infancy. An especially big thank you to those who have been working with us to make Futurology the best it can be since the beginning.
As mods, our job isn’t always easy, but having a playerbase as energizing as this one has certainly helped us get through! So, on Futurology’s first birthday, we’d like to offer you all our gratitude, and we hope that the game will continue strong for more to come.

Of course, what’s a birthday without presents?
Wherever they’re staying--be it a local’s house, a barn, or the cold hard desert ground--characters will wake to find a ring tucked beneath their pillow or right by their head. (If your character can’t or won’t wear rings, please substitute the appropriate jewelry of your choice!) The ring lacks any particular powers, but within its cabochon head is a kind of snowglobe-like representation of home. What that means for your character is up to you: where they live, where they work, their friends and family.
Along with the ring is a little rolled-up note: HAPPY BIRTHDAY, AUDENTES!

We have a birthday request!
If you'd like, please tell us below what your character's home-ring is! We'd like to coo over how cute they all are. |

A middle-aged woman and man sit on the couch, short and redheaded and tall and blonde respectively, sometimes with a cat, sometimes a dog, sometimes chattering with one another, sometimes in companionable silence. A teenage girl is often there, but not always. A cup of cocoa sits on a carpet in front of the hearth, along with a pile of books (one open and face-down far too near the crackling fire) and a discarded pair of socks.

The cabochon is set within a pentagon cut on a golden ring, pearls on either side of the miniature diorama within. Inside, a red sunset casts a sharp glow across a tiny rendition of soaring, snow-covered peaks, and black evergreens march down the slope from the tree-line.
A dome is present smack in the center of the ring: at first it appears to be made of something like sun-kissed marble and gold, but when looking closer, it's apparent that this is not a solid shape, but an exquisitely carved series of arcing (sometimes non-euclidian) vaulting buttresses that anchor into the mountain face, and into impossibly tall, narrow spires placed at the center and four quadrant-edges of the city.
Unlike Laedo's magic, which is only perceptible to the trained eye, the magic of the city of Sanctuary is revealed to all here in the form of a soap-bubble array of hues hovering over the surface of the dome, constantly shifting as though along magnetic poles. Little flecks of wings can occasionally be seen flitting in and out of the dome to give perspective, mostly gold and pearlescent like Laedo, but some in different hues. If one takes a jeweler's loupe to the piece, one can make out askans, riyalans, makanans, and occasionally earth-bound niteshans congregating and traversing the interior of the dome, worshipping at the central spire, or traveling a singular road that winds down the mountain-face from the dome into the forest.

Sometimes the weather changes and little flashes of lightning appear over the city. At these times the ring will act a bit like a plasma globe and when touched, a mythical beast made of lightning, known as the Lightning Walker, will briefly appear on its long lightning legs.
Rocky does not wear the ring. He can't wear it because his arms are constantly transforming into weapons. Instead, he keeps it in the safest place he can think of — inside his own chest.

Saitama's home is a tiny crap apartment he somehow shares with another guy. It is tiny and crap but it's his tiny and crap apartment. The view in his ring can be something akin to the above, but more realistically depicted in scale, of course.

He will not be seen ever wearing the ring, but will keep it pocketed.

Darc's ring contains the above location on Cragh Island, except the scene is at night, lit only by tiny stars, lanterns on the beach, and a fantastical array of what appear to be fireworks over the ocean. It may not be the place he automatically thinks of when one says the word 'home', but in a way it's what he hopes 'home' could be like-- Cragh Island is a remote and difficult to reach island and the one place in his world where humans and Deimos have always lived in peace. It's a place that represents hope for the future. It's also where he was just before he slipped through the rift, and there are 10 tiny figures standing on the beach-- his group of Deimos allies/friends, Lilia, a human girl, but also Kharg (his fraternal twin brother who looks human) and HIS group of humans. The last part is a little surprising to him, but also makes sense. The fireworks are what's left of the Flying Fortress as it sinks below the waves.
He is going to REALLY appreciate having this.

It's a bit of a rose with very sharp thorns as far as gifts go-- there's a sense of familiarity and groundedness that comes from looking at it, for him, but also other, more convoluted feelings. Loss and dread, longing and bitterness. Jealousy and love.

A slightly cramped, very top-secret looking meeting room filled floor-to-ceiling with sophisticated monitors and consoles. It's not particularly inviting of a place, but the three people within it (a blonde woman with an undercut, a dark-haired man with a headband, and a dark-haired woman with cornrows) are talking animatedly together, huddled over one of the screens. What they're saying is of course not audible, but it's evident that they're part of a team and behaving as such.
Very occasionally, the scene will shift to that of a woman with long, dark hair seated in the living room of a modest, yet stylishly furnished apartment. She stares out the window at what appears to be the skyline of a city in central China; a handful of action figures, a foam sword, and a few books scattered across the floor seem to hint at the presence of a young boy.
Jin won't wear the ring, but he'll keep it pocketed until he can hide it somewhere safe back in Oska.

It's his frieeeends and they're all together... like a family!! In the wreckage of Helios, which is... wreckage and it's boring and corporate grey and everything, it's not that exciting. Of special note is this girl right here, because she is adorable and also a robot. AND there's a statue with its head cut off and 'RHYS' written on it, that's pretty cool/weird. Anyway it's gross and sentimental but he will cherish it 5ever.

Baccanovarious movies currently being shown within; surrounding it are a number of other prominent buildings in the area, such as the Tokyo Hand shopping center, the golden globe of Russia Sushi, and a wealth of other shops/restaurants interspersed with billboards and signs, with the skyline visible above the buildings in the distance. Day and night pass inside the ring at a matching rate to the time of day outside, changing the lighting within; in the evening everything is bathed in an orange sunset, and at night the miniature city holds enough winking metropolitan lights to nearly resemble a small galaxy.Things move inside the ring as well, tiny cars sliding down the street and countless even tinier people milling along the sidewalks at all hours of the day. Mostly unfamiliar, features difficult to make out, though sometimes there's a glimpse of someone in a lab coat, or a group of three in blue school uniforms, or an especially taller dark-skinned man in white hawking brochures on the street corner. In the mornings there's a van parked on the curb with a varying anime girl painted on one of its doors, surrounded by four people loitering about it. During the day there's a blond woman either on a white motorcycle or accompanied by a man in dreadlocks. At twilight, if you're lucky, a yellow-helmeted figure on a pitch black motorcycle tears down the street in front of the cinema sometimes, there and gone in a flash.
Shizuo won't be wearing the ring, but he'll keep it in an inner pocket of his waistcoat near his heart. On days when his mood is especially bad, he'll find it soothing to take a quiet moment and just watch the little people bustle about in the ring, trying to pick out their tiny faces.

((Second link, third panel from left to right: Mayu, Nana, Yuka, Nozomi, and Lucy/Nyuu.)
Nyuu will openly wear it along with the jade ring that serves as her magitech comm, and will be happy to explain what it shows, but Lucy will hide it in her pocket and only look when she's sure that she's alone.

Lloyd's ring--a much older type, with a kind of dusky 'screened' finish--actually shows a crowd of people mingling in a stark white space. There are probably hundreds of them, if not more. They're all very diverse: some are human, some alien, a centaur here, a few elves, the occasional pixie darting about. They vary in race and age. Occasionally, a small person can be seen slipping through the legs of the adults milling about. The majority are middle-aged or older, and almost all of them wear ALASTAIR colors.
At the very center of the crowd is an elderly woman who looks remarkably human but for blue skin. She, like the rest, seems relaxed and happy, casually chatting up her closest neighbour, a bent and grizzled old man. Sometimes, if he looks at the ring in just the right light, she seems to smile at him.

Who they are exactly is a mystery but they look happy together.
Widowmaker won't wear her ring due to her profession, being afraid she may break it. But it will be kept on her person at all times as a reminder of happier times.

From one side, you can see Wolfsschlucht Village at night, from the medieval style homes, a courtyard filled with torture implements from the witch hunts, the gloomy manor, and the candlelit library/study she had spent most of her life. But you won't see any of the women she's mentioned in conversation... no handmaidens, no villagers, no crone- only Wolfram, her manservant.
From the other side, you can see Sieglinde's room in Oska, her bed and desk absolutely covered in her books, potions, herbs, and papers, and those dearest to her in the team, even those who've gone, come in and out of the scene as visitors. There's a certain one-eyed samurai and his retainer, an Atlantean princess, a golden king among kings, a heartless hunter and his brother, a red-haired bookworm, a drunk immortal, a kind dancer-turned-disciple, a noble hero from the past, an elegant archer and red one, a false ghoul, an elven mage, a god of mischief and one of love, a well-meaning skeleton, a clever Askan, a young legendary wizard, a king of knights, a sharp-shooting officer, a cardcaptor, a guest of Wonderland, a fiery-tempered young magus... There's so many people. Laughing, talking, researching, working, sharing meals...
She won't wear her ring on her finger, (using those hands around chemicals too much for that), but she'll keep it on the end of her chatelaine along with her magitech and other useful items.

Specifically, the abandoned fireplace of one. On the mantle are a few framed photos and various nick-nacks. At the center is a picture of Asher smiling next to an older man to whom he bears some resemblance, but there's a crack in it, running right through the space between them.
Other than that, the place seems empty.

Or it might be the sight of her family and a bonus with Nadeshiko. Also the option of seeing Syaoran. Because sappy shoujo I guess.

It'll be a tiny ocean with The Thousand Sunny smack right in the middle of it. On the tiny boat, if one looks close enough, it's easy to see the tiny little crewmates who aren't in ALASTAIR's care--and they look pretty dang happy to run around the giant boat, sailing the Big Blue Sea.

On the couch in the middle of the apartment, there's an older woman who resembles Lapis - though her eyes are a deep brown, her dark hair much curler and shorter, and with a pair of glasses perched on her face. She's curled up on the couch and playing a video game of some sort, only pausing to take a sip of her coffee cup that's placed on the floor. Around her, objects move by what seems to be invisible forces - some files are flicked through or tided up, a watering can floats around to water the plants, there's a dip in the couch next to the older woman as something sits next to her to watch her game. Faint shadows of the ghosts can be seen if one looks closely, though Lapis can see them clearly.

There is Tsukuyo, but aside from her there are also:
They're all laughing and looking very happy, except for Tsukuyo and Gintoki who just smile, small but genuine. How mushy.

Koltira's ring does not show anything, because he is a sad pile of alienated bastard.
Both of'em wear their rings.

basically just his team inside the castle, safe and happy. everything else from earth is a little too uncertain for him, considering he's still presumed dead and his team is his entire priority atm.
he's probably not going to wear his ring at all. shiro's going to put it on a string around his neck until he gets back to oska and can tuck it safely away somewhere. (or maybe keep wearing it who knows)

TBH when he saw it he probably cried. You're pretty okay, but only sometimes, ALASTAIR.
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY FUTUROLOGY as someone that has been in the game since it opened I am so excited to have been a part of the adventure. It's been a great run and I really appreciate how open mods are to player input and how flexible and unique the setting is. I've had a wonderful time in this game and all the players are fantastic, hugs and kisses and cats for all!!!

And maybe, just maybe, you'll catch a hint of a blonde ponytail and knee-high socks. More likely you'll see a graveyard, because so many people that represented home ended up there and if you spend enough time anywhere, it'll haunt you.

In the daylight, his ring reflects the small remnant world of Oska, castle and all. It's peopled by members of his rather large squad — in particular, the ones he's gotten to know quite well. One has to look closely but if they do, they're sure to recognize one little figure or another milling about this little setting. If Haise is reasonably familiar with someone, there's a good chance of seeing them if one looks.
During the night, on the other hand, what one will see is the Tokyo skyline. Instead of ALASTAIR members, instead individuals in white coats populate this scene. They're faces that are mostly unrecognizable, people who Haise would name as his associates in the CCG. The only one people may recognize (and the only one to appear in both day and nighttime scenes) is Arima Kishou, as a member of both organizations.
Notably, Haise himself isn't always depicted in either image of home. Sometimes one can spot him among the others. Sometimes, he's not there at all. And on few occasions in just the right lighting, what might be Haise looks a lot more like a young man who was wandering lost in Oska not too long ago...
Haise won't wear this ring on his hand, but he'll carry it in the breast pocket of his coat unless he anticipates that he'll be in combat. Wouldn't want to break it, after all.

He won't wear it as a ring (armor and gardening don't go well with rings), but he'll thread it onto the cord his magitech pendant is on.

It's going to be a charm that he can add to the necklace he wears with his magitek.

But occasionally, it'll show something more scenic, in which case there'll be a woman walking (or charioteering) along, though not always the same one. Whether it's a princess, a mercurial goddess, a queen, a warrior, or a sharply dressed redhead, he'll usually pocket the ring when he notices it shift.
no subject
If you shift the ring just right, it shows a colder scene, metal walls and bolted furniture. There's a bar, some chairs, and a sectional in the corner. A redhead replaces the blond, tucked up on the couch contentedly reading a book. Across the room, there's a figure that looks a lot like a dejected, slightly younger Sigma, but that'd be weird if he was in his own ring, wouldn't it.
He'll probably keep it on his magitek necklace or in his pocket if things get crazy.

ok Ramir's, her ring shows a large interior room, with a huge bookcase taking one entire wall. It's lavishly furnished with plenty of sitting room, like it's ready to host a movie night for 20 people at any moment. It's all done in pale cream colors and deep reds, and looks pretty expensive. Figures wander through now and then, all with the sort of familiarity that suggests they visit often enough to consider it home, if they don't outright live there. She'll cry about it immediately then shove it into the bottom of her bag forever. ...Then pull it out once in a while when no one's looking.
Knock Out's shows an entire planet. It's a view from space of a beautiful, glimmering, metallic ball in space, lively and bright despite that it's an inorganic place. Its atmosphere glitters with the coming and going of hundreds of ships, satellites, and space stations. A pretty lively place, clearly. It'll be disappearing pretty quickly into some internal compartment of his, but when he's in car form, should anyone ever happen to be inside, it's mounted in a little holder on the center of his dash.

there's also a little stand full of ashes, but it just looks like cat litter from a distance.
