EVENT WRITE-UP: GILLIGAN'S ISLAND
![]() MAROONED Characters that are signed up will find themselves literally picked up and carried away by the storm that rocks the Nalawi islands three days after the eruptions. They find themselves deposited on a mysterious island, newly raised up from the seafloor, and held there when the storm rings around the island and refuses to abate. They will be kept there for one in-game week, and characters who have signed up for AC Reward plot slots will be able to provide a little more insight as to why, and how to return. The log is here, which has greater event detail, and will cover the span of their time there. ![]() LEFT BEHIND For characters that chose not to sign up, they will be left outside of the typhoon's radius of effect and will find refuge on Pu'ulai. Travel to Komo and other surrounding islands will be impossible as the storm continues, but Pu'ulai is a mostly safe haven from the elements. But that doesn't mean all is well. After the volcanic eruption, the Nalawi's gifts have dimmed even further, and the Council is desperate to find a solution. Even worse, some of the townsfolk have been driven to their wit's end. A coalition of them has turned to Ryba for aid; this mysterious cult of new worshippers has disappeared further into the island. And with them, more and more Nalawi vanish nightly. Characters may search for the missing villagers, though all of surviving ones will be at the cultists' hidden camp. Otherwise, there are ritualistic circles made of seashells, bits of rotting fish left in offering, or strange rock formations that spark with eerie, magical energy. CW: mild body horror. However, the most gruesome finds are by the shoreline. In the shallows, characters might stumble upon Nalawi bodies, tangled up in seaweed and buoyed by driftwood. Characters that can stomach a little investigation can notice that their bellies are purposefully sliced and peeled. And though the local wildlife has nibbled a bit, it's clear the tiny fish nearby aren't what gouged their eyes out. The driftwood itself is water-bloated, but indecipherable etchings run all up and down it, written in a language that all of the Nalawi will angrily attribute to Ryba if asked. Characters that sign up for the AC Reward Plot Slots in this group will be given the opportunity to investigate these disappearances first, or otherwise stumble upon the cult's dwellings. Upon doing so, two (2) characters will be captured by the Ryba cult to be sacrificed to their new god, and the third member will be able to escape. Throughout the week, conflict between the Nalawi and Ryba's followers will come to a head. Vicious fights will break out all throughout the villages -- the tiny deer people make up for their small size with a massive tendency for violence. Recruits that stick around may get dragged into the squabbles and fights, or mugged by a crowd for their food. The Nalawi will steal anything that isn't boarded down, including resources that might go towards rescuing the other recruits. The sideways explosion from Nalalona has affected the environs of Pu'ulai as well: having been closest to the blast, the island is covered in a blanket of ash. Everything is dirty and gray, and sunlight struggles to filter down through the cloud. As a result, Pu'uali is colder than usual, leading to even more tension amongst the tropically-acclimated Nalawi. This portion of the event will not have its own mass log, but players are encouraged to create their own posts. OOC INFO NETWORK The network will be disrupted between the two groups by the storm, but they can still communicate amidst themselves. For example: Billy may be stranded on the island and attempt to contact Anne, who is still on the mainland. His messages would fail to transmit to her. However, he could still reach Charles, who is also stranded. Players may choose whether failed messages disappear, bounce back unanswered, or transmit all at once once communications are back fully online. OTHER We'll also be taking this event at a IC:OOC ratio of 1:2, meaning for every (2) OOC days that pass, only (1) IC day will. We're trying a slightly different approach with regards to AC reward plot slots as well, so for those that sign up, please expect a PM from us shortly. QUESTIONS? If you have questions about this sequence of events (for either side!), please ask them below. If you have questions regarding the Nalawi mission in general, including mechanics or questions unrelated to the events, please use the mission overview page. |
QUESTIONS?

2. Can characters not marooned see this island/the storm/etc and just not approach? or do they have no idea where the other group ran off to?
no subject
2. It's very far from the main islands, and with all the ash in the air the island is invisible.

Also! Can anything be harvested from the giant serpent monster? Scales, teeth, etc.
no subject
As for harvesting the sea monster, we have no problem with that, there's plenty to go around!

1. Would magic detecting devices point out the storm as magical in nature? If so, would any particular area in the storm or on the island give off a more powerful signal?
2. Dissection of the sea serpent... if one looked for what it last ate and what it died of, would one come up with your basic "fish" and "lack of water"?
3. Weird, but- what color is the hallucinogen seaweed? Normal green?
4. Is there any clothing or shoes etc. that can be found in the homes that would allow people to hypothesize on the size and build of the people who lived there?
no subject
2. That's correct, it died of the usual things sea creatures die of when brought out of water, and had a pretty typical diet.
3. Green, yes, and it doesn't stand out from other species of seaweed in any particular way.
4. All personal effects are still there, so she is definitely welcome to find clothing, shoes, and the shape of furniture and tools/utensils that would suggest size of the inhabitants: they were about a foot taller than the average human. It's also worth noting that shoes will be shaped differently, for a wider and shorter foot, and pants/dresses/backs of chairs all have a hole in them to accommodate a tail.

Re: QUESTIONS?
1. After the recruits initially go missing would it be right to say the beaches are experiencing typhoon effects (so higher rushing in of the tide, bigger waves, nasty undertow, beach erosion) and then those effects will subside enough for the shoreline to be searched eventually? Or would it be not affected at all, or always in effect just need to time searching correctly or... ?
2. I know that the investigations of the missing nalawai are plot reward slot only, but finding the mangled sacrifices on the shoreline is open to everyone, yes? If so, do they only start appearing after a certain amount of time from the typhoon taking some of the recruits? Or would it be they are randomly washed up into the shallows with the waves sort of as a result of the typhoon? (Or am I wrong and the sacrifices were in the shallows to begin with?)
Val and I were going to have Riza and Masamune take a look at the beach right after Undyne has her roll call for those not taken by the typhoon but we weren't sure if we should be going with that being too soon to find anything (because of weather effects or just too fast and etc.). So we just wanted to double check with you guys the perceived situation of the beaches at this point since it would be a bit OOC for them to entirely miss everything if it is actually available. Basically, checking to make sure no toes are stepped on. Thanks so much!
edit; ugh Also I'm sorry apparently I'm dyslexic with Nalawai and can't stop the Nawali term orz ;;;

1) The weather is simply very stormy out on the ocean, keeping characters grounded on Pu'ulai, similar to the storm that raged at the beginning of the mission that kept them on Komo. The beaches themselves are fine to investigate without problem.
2) We're sorry if it was unclear, but characters are more than welcome to investigate the missing Nalawi! The plot slots are simply to designate characters who will be kidnapped by the cult. We also may have been unclear about the nature of the corpses; they are not washing up on shore from the ocean, but have been dumped from the shore and simply didn't get very far. They are obviously not a result of the typhoon, as they have been clearly ritualistically mutilated. They can be found after villagers begin to go missing.
We hope this answered your questions! Please feel free to let us know if you need anything else clarified.

1) Since the network's down between the two groups, am I correct in assuming that the tracking functionality in the jewelry would also be down between the two groups?
2) Will the tracking device work in locating those kidnapped by Ryba cultists presuming I work with the plot slot group on that, or will it also fail to locate the kidnapped recruits? I'm fine either way, as this is mostly for IC housekeeping.
Thanks!

2) It's ultimately up to the plot slot group, yes, but we see no reason why that wouldn't work mechanically. As long as they're okay with it, you're good to go!

Just curious what inquisitive characters might find in Nalanni's Garden (if anything) beyond the description given! Will there be anyone there, will they explain the murals depicted, or anything like that?
no subject
The gardens are as described, though currently they are covered in a blanket of ash. There is a priest there who will impatiently describe the murals as depicting the war with the Dakal and the ending of it, but she doesn't have time to go into details; she's busy tending to the sick and starving.

I didn't ask this earlier because I thought it'd probably be a moot point, since the characters on the island had no way of communicating back, BUT NOW with the discovery of a boat I'm wondering, would it be possible for peter here to make some sort of radio that's capable of communicating with the ship? he has his cell phone and he could maybe gather parts from other characters that have tech from home. Since the ship likely has some kind of radio system, conceivably they might be able to make contact after they get past the storm, but I wanted to know if this was kosher before I tried to put it in motion!

Would they get any answers out of the panicked Nalawi and if yes, what would they be?

If Chrollo were to capture and steal away one of the cultists to say, torture them for information, would he yield anything useful?
