BLOOD FRENZIES AND YOU (a small quick player plot)
HELLO, FRIENDS. It's my birthday in a few days and I've decided that, for my present, I want ultraviolence.
Koltira here is a death knight, and as such he suffers from a compulsive need to inflict suffering on other people. He fights against this with all his strength, but unfortunately it's a pretty nasty curse. Death knights are always in some amount of pain (which is why they have extremely goth goodbyes like 'Suffer well'), but this pain increases exponentially in direct proportion to time passed sans bloodletting. Koltira hasn't caused anyone to beg for their life in quite some time; as a result, he's presently in so much wracking pain that he can hardly think or see.
When this suffering overwhelms him, he enters a blood frenzy--a heightened, maddened state in which he will do anything to alleviate his pain. What does this mean for you? Well, potentially nothing! You are free to let this pass by your character's radar if you are not comfortable/interested.
However, if you are, a basic rundown:
--Koltira will not be going on a murderous rampage and slaughtering half of Chantes. However, he will try to kill a few NPCs. This is where your character can come in. Interrupt him, distract him, whatever. Don't let this hideous pile of elf make a mess.
--Even in his frenzied state, Koltira retains some vestiges of who he is. He will be actively trying not to hurt your character or anyone else, but he will find it increasingly difficult to stop himself as A, time goes on and if B, your character is the provoking type.
--That said, neither he nor I are actually looking to kill anybody (though he might finish off a couple of NPCs if he is not interrupted)! He can do as little or as much damage as you prefer, but he will stop short of lethal. Meaning: he will have a brief moment of terrible lucidity, look upon what he's wrought, and run the fuck away.
--Death knights are out of control ridiculous and gross. Their powers center around insects, plagues, decay, and literally summoning zombie hordes. Koltira's curse also makes him a sadist. So, in other words, this could be gross.
--Once he gets out of town and away from populated areas, he'll just be screaming, screaming, screaming into the night. You're also free to encounter him in the woods/outskirts.
--He is doing this because he is in terrible, unavoidable pain. Rest assured, any suffering he inflicts on your character (and/or NPCs), he will regret later. He will become both avoidant (for a time) and irrevocably in your character's debt (forever).
If you'd like to plan out an encounter, or if you have questions, please let me know! I'm on plurk at
runehallow as well. The log will be going up tomorrow afternoon (CST) or thereabouts.

unfortunately riza is nowhere close to functionally immortal (but she does bleed a lot??? as fma has shown in great detail, thx fma) but she owes koltira for getting her out of the fishy situation of earlier. i...........made the mistake of commenting to this before morning coffee BUT I WILL REPORT BACK AS SOON I IMBIBE SOME CAFFEINE with something hopefully more awe-inspiring than 'let's a do a thing'

and if he was smart, he'd be functionally invincible. but he's not and series trope tells me that mr death knight should inflict pain on him with barry failing horribly at heroing.
thankfully, he is also a super-speedster at healing so maybe koltira won't feel too bad????????
